Definitive Technology ProSub 800 Subwoofers

For supremely increased subwoofer performance, the brand new Definitive Technology ProSub 800 subwoofers are an ideal option. These are manufactured by the world’s foremost car audio manufacturing company, in the USA, which has produced the excellent Pro Subwoofers since 1987. The company is proud to be the top maker of their niche products, and are constantly upgrading their designs. Each one of their subwoofers meets a stringent quality standard due to the close attention paid to every detail by their expert engineers. Their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA, houses all of their equipment and is widely regarded as the ultimate in sound quality.

The Definitive Technology ProSub 800 subwoofers are engineered to work closely with your vehicle’s audio system, using a combination of superior voice coil and heavy-duty rated magnet speaker wire. The amplifier portion of this system is complimented by an optimally-designed Power amplifier that is filled with the best parts for your vehicle’s specific need. A high-performance amplifier ensures that the subwoofers will work perfectly with your vehicle’s speakers. The amplifier portion is coupled with an optimally-designed subwoofer crossover network that is able to handle a wide range of frequencies, from low frequencies to very high ones. This allows you to optimize the power signal sent to the subwoofer for superior sound performance.

The amplifier portion of the system employs a number of advanced technologies, such as an Optimally Controlled Loudness Boost (LCB), which intelligently increases subwoofer output levels based on the demands of the song or video being played back. This is done without disturbing the other audio elements, such as the bass. The amplifier has been designed to offer true audiophile sound quality. In addition, you can also benefit from Total Control Impedance Control (TCIC), which improves both total tonal balance and bass extension.

If you have a ride, then the Definitive Technology ProSub 800 subwoofers can be the perfect match for it. These woofers are extremely stable and are designed to properly handle the high level of energy they need to produce. Standard designs of subwoofers use rubber surround and neoprene dome covers. Unfortunately, these protectors wear out after prolonged use. But the new enclosures are completely waterproof and can be completely recycled when replaced. For added protection, an amplifier that employs advanced SoundLock features is recommended.

The amplifier can be used in any vehicle, due to its modular architecture. You can also increase the subwoofer output by installing an additional amplifier-ready amplifier board. It is possible to install a subwoofer with dual powerful amplifiers using the included pre-amp. Other optional accessories include line outputs, phase control, and – if needed – banana plug adapters.

When speaking of bass, the Definitive Technology ProSub 800 subwoofers feature a Hi-flow servo amplifier. This hi-fidelity servo amplifier features one drive coil and four terminals. Unlike many other subwoofers that have a single coil, the Define Sub woofhead uses dual coils. It is ideal for high performing bass. Some other features include an aluminum surrounds, deep and wide seating octaves, a uniform power distribution, a precision balanced output signal and a precision tuned crossover system.

  1. It’s a smaller sub, not as strong as my ProSub1000, which I also own and enjoy. I’m addicted to DefTech. I’m not going to buy anything else. This is an excellent sub for smaller rooms or basements/TV rooms for the price. We blast a lot of loud/rock music from our basement home audio system… and the entire house, even upstairs, sounds great. It fills in the gaps at the bottom and is well balanced. It improves the sound of everything we play or watch. Get the ProSub1000 if you want more boom and shake. The model is fantastic for the price, and it will jar your teeth. The 800 is also likely to be a decent option for condos/apartments. It won’t annoy the neighbors as much as the 1000, but it sounds fantastic.

  2. The structure is sturdy. Setup and operation are easy. The volume control is conveniently placed on the cabinet’s side.

The pro sub 800 should have enough power and low end to satisfy the majority of gaming and AVS users. Works well in small to medium-sized living rooms.

In my audio setup, I have two PS 800s. The outcomes are pleasing. Although there is more bass, the bottom end is not as solid. With increased depth, the imaging and soundstage become noticeably more established. These are paired with a NAD 316 bee v2 amp, SVS Ultra Bookshelves on 24″ stands, and a Topping E30 DAC. This machine is of audiophile caliber.

If you overdrive the volume level on the 8″ woofer, the bass can become too boomy. The importance of placement and tailoring the production level cannot be overstated when it comes to good results. Consider a larger device if your space is wide and open, or if you want the floor and walls to rumble.

  3. This is exactly what I was looking for in a sub. It’s in a basement space (13′ x 24′) with cinder block walls, a rug, and a sofa. The subwoofer is connected to a Sonos Amp 2 through the Amp’s Sub out and combined with two Definitive Technologies Demand D11 bookshelf speakers (which are mounted on the DT stand purpose built for the Demand series). So, by no means a cheap setup. Surprisingly, this sub is the least expensive!

After some time spent going through various genres of music and tuning with the volume knob on the side of the sub, the volume output from the Sonos Amp 2, and the crossover, which can also be operated from the Amp, I was able to dial in the perfect amount of bass. My aim was to add just enough punch to the bottom end to fit with the natural bass that the D11s already have. Those speakers aren’t bad, but they don’t have the punch of a dedicated sub. The ProSub 800 generates more than enough bass if needed, but with this setup, I was able to dial in the exact frequency I wanted as well as the level, so that an untrained listener can see the D11s, hear some bass heavy music, and their jaw will drop at how full and rich all frequencies of the spectrum sound, from the crystal clear highs that the D11s excel at, to the deep bass that the D11s excel at.
