  1. I was reading how many reviews were moaning about the bass and felt compelled to comment. Look at the scale and cost of these speakers, people. As far as I can tell, they are not intended for bass or front speakers. They are crystal clear and have decent sensitivity, and I bought them for rear surround speakers. They work flawlessly together, with larger Polk speakers in the front, a strong center speaker, and powered subs. I’m using a Sony 790 with a 7.2 aperture. As surround speakers, they were ideal for my apartment. The footprint is small. Allow your fronts and subs to handle the bass. As I saw someone else do, do not use these speakers in parallel or series with other speakers in your setup. This drastically changes the ohms and can cause your amp to fail prematurely.

  2. I just bought my fourth and fifth sets of these speakers. They are unbeatable in terms of price and efficiency. I have a surround device, and I discovered that doubling up on them gives them a fantastic extended quality. When I say double up, I mean bind two of them in parallel and use two of them as one speaker. To keep the 6 ohm impedance of one speaker for the amp, I add a 1,000uF capacitor between them. The capacitor is completely invisible and has no effect on the frequency response.

For complete balance, I use two of these TSi100 speakers in parallel for the left front channel, two more for the right front channel, and two more for the middle channel. Yes, they sound much superior to a traditional center channel speaker. The ones for the left and right channels are stacked one on top of the other, and the ones for the middle channel are laid side by side. The bottoms of all three are butted together. It enhances stereo imaging by offering a taller projected pattern of sound from each speaker. Instead of an 11-inch sound pattern, I get a wider sound pattern and higher SPL from 22-inch boxes.

The fourth and fifth pairs I just bought will be for the left and right 5.1 surround channels. These will be stacked and linked together as well. The speakers in all five channels are balanced (stacked). If anyone is interested, I completed the Polk Speaker system with the Polk PSW-10 Subwoofer. Polk has produced yet another excellent product. Since the space is only 20′ x 20′, the 10 inch Sub is an excellent option.

I did, however, read a few unfavorable reviews of the TSi100. However, based on what they said, they were expecting much too much. According to some feedback, the speaker has a poor bass response. It’s a 5.25-inch woofer in a shoebox, guys. Did you really expect them to pound on the door? Get a subwoofer if you want bass. Sub woofers are responsible for smaller speakers sounding better with less distortion at higher volumes. A speaker’s low frequency bass can distort the rest of the sound it makes. By removing the deep low bass frequencies from a speaker, the speaker can deliver clearer sound with less distortion across the spectrum.

  3. If you want to listen to heaven rock or metal, these aren’t going to live up to your standards. They are lacking in low-end bass oomph.

Now, the following section of my analysis may appear to contradict what I just said.

They do have some bass. Drums and low end can be heard. However, if you want it to “thump” or “bump,” you must have a sub in your system. I have few complaints about how they perform treble and mid-range voices and instruments. I think these are fantastic (in terms of quality), but they lack around 15% to 20% of the bass oomph that would make them rock! I have these with a sub and love the information they have. They haven’t worn in yet, but I adore them.
