MartinLogan Motion 15 Bookshelf Speaker Demo

what is up everyone welcome back to
audio architects today we’re gonna be
unboxing the Martin Logan motion 15 eyes
I am so excited about cracking these
things open have heard nothing but good
things so let’s get to it let’s roll man
we’re back what is up everyone Mike with
Audio architects here if you’re new to
the channel don’t forget to smash that
like button subscribe to the channel and
ring the bells you get notified every
time I put out new content every Friday
so today we’re gonna be unboxing the
Martin Logan motion 15 i bookshelf
speakers I I am so ready to open these
up and see what’s inside alright guys
we’re in all right first things first
packaging and it has a couple of those
little you know plastic rubbery feet
things for the bottom of the speaker as
we all well no we don’t need
instructions because why not right it’s
for you it’s for you all right we got
some healthy piece of foam alright and
we’re just we’re just getting right it
thicker man things right here this thing
is huge this thing is ginormous
wait there’s a there’s a box inside a
box again hold on what’s the box what’s
in the box it’s getting the box first I
just didn’t cover never was in there
all the grill please tell me oh man oh
man you know it you know it wait a
second
are these non-magnetic grills Oh strike
one Martin Logan Gomez grill maybe they
are well no no I can feel a little rigid
right here okay so far it came really
well packaged I’m diggin the packaging
boy
as always the beautiful the beautiful
nylon baggie I gotta be careful of these
because they’re actually glossy black
black as always because black everything
in my life mother trucker way decent
peanut buttery fingers on there huh some
fingerprints dude this is legit look at
that tweeter that driver the sexy
colossi black dude I’m loved right now
I’m willing to forgive the lack of
magnetic grill you know that bothers the
hell out of me but I mean dude that is
sexy as you can see in the back we got a
couple plugs nothing too complicated
nice bass port dude I think these things
are gonna rock my socks off alright guys
I’m not gonna waste any more time I’m
gonna unbox the other one and I want to
get these things rocking and rolling
let’s roll the Martin Logan motion 59
bookshelf speakers feature a folded
motion tweeter five and a quarter inch
aluminum cone woofer with a rear firing
bass pour in a
i tre crossover network made to deliver
a more refined sound and stunning
clarity the speaker’s cabinet supports a
reinforced baffle and fabric grille
which later I found out is in fact
magnetic so I take back the striker gave
them earlier the speakers are available
in a gloss black matte white and red
walnut however you all know I went with
black the folded motion tweeter utilizes
an extremely low mass diaphragm that
squeezes air thus demanding
significantly less excursion than the
typical one-inch dome tweeter it offers
really nice high-frequency detail the
midbass driver is custom-built and is
paired with a high-powered magnet
structure with aluminum cone diaphragms
to deliver massive excursion and output
the 5 weight olace binding posts
accommodate bare wire banana plugs spade
lugs terminal pen and alligator clips
the speaker itself purchase elegance
with modern minimalism its overall
design is stunning and would go well
with most modern decors so after
listening to them and measuring them
using re W I decided to phone a friend
to help me analyze the results let’s go
talk to Giles alright guys I got my
friend Giles on the horn and we’re gonna
dissect this re w situation I personally
MMU to the rtw world I’ll be honest I
really don’t know what that what that
means so my friend Giles means nothing
right it’s everything or nothing well
for those of you that have never seen us
interact we do have a podcast and web
series on YouTube called power of sound
so if you want to check that out it will
be in the description below so yeah we
obviously Giles knows what he’s doing
and I trust him and I want him to tell
me exactly what these Martin Logan’s are
doing and why they’re doing it and
that’s what the re W really does it kind
of gives you an internal graph of sound
and why it’s doing what it’s doing and
why it sounds the way it sounds so for
those of you that don’t know about re W
we’re about to learn everything about
rtw in about 2.5 seconds and not
everything
well let’s want cyclopædia are you dip
so let’s let’s pull this file up and
take a look and see what we got going on
all right
boom so Mike let’s what I need you to do
is walk us through what the two
measurement graphs are right so re W is
just simply a tool take a microphone
plug it into a computer and you’ll run a
frequency sweep so it’ll put output you
know 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz in this
example through the speakers and then
the microphone records the relative
volume level of it so you can see how
well the speaker reproduces sounds at
any given frequency colored by the
environment that the speakers are in
right so a lot of times you’ll see a lot
of room interaction with speakers and so
let’s talk about what is the green line
represent the green line was when I had
the microphone directly up to the
speaker and the red line is when I had
it placed about six feet away from the
speaker which is usually where I sit and
listen to these speakers in general all
right okay so the translation of that is
the Green Line is going to show what is
more representative of the speaker’s
performance now you’re still getting
room interaction but up close you have
less less impact from reflection and
that kind of thing and then the red one
this this guy down here this is showing
a lot more room interaction so as you
can see you’ve got a really huge hump
right here in red another huge hump here
and these are probably room induced now
if you look at the green you’ll still
still see that their humps there
although they are they’re much lessened
you know they’re they’re much much less
of a hoffa so my guess is that this is
room stuff but you know let’s talk about
let’s talk about the Green Line because
that’s likely to be a little more
indicative of what the speaker’s
actually doing you know as you can see
here you know if you look across the
bottom you’ve got the different
frequencies this is 1k 2k up to 10 K and
then 20 K and a double in your frequency
is equates out to one octave increase in
tone or pitch so now this 10 K to 20 K
is kind of the top octave of sound and
then this 30 really down to 15 which we
don’t see here would be the bottom
octave and most people generally accept
that 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz is like
super perfect hearing and then the older
you get you know the top in kind of
falls falls off so with that said fairly
consistent curve it looks like it kind
of slopes down a bit overall before it
gets up to 13 point 1 K where it you
know rolls off naturally and you see
that in a lot of speakers so I would not
consider this necessarily to be a very
super bright speaker you know as that it
does roll off in the top and a little
bit if this was a little more straight
across maybe I would say hey that’s
that’s pretty bright you know it’s just
really got a lot going on at the top end
but I would consider this to be more of
a mellow speaker from a foot case point
of view or rather a bookshelf speaker
one of the things you want to understand
this the bass response that these things
have because that’s that’s kind of what
you trade off when you move from a tower
to a bookshelf not the tower speakers
are all that great at bass reproduction
unless you get some kind of monster with
like three twelves built in or something
but a bookshelf speakers they they have
a lot less and in this case you can see
here at 131 Hertz things take a turn to
the south and then things really drop
off about 64 Hertz and that’s this is
functionally the the bottom end of what
the speaker is going to do for you so if
you’re really looking to get from 60 you
know down to 30 which is an octave and
30 down to 15
you know those bottom two octaves of
sound you’re gonna need to supplement
this with some type of subwoofer now my
guess is I’m not I don’t even know the
particular model of the Martin logan’s
we’re looking at but I’m gonna guess
this is like a five and a quarter
speaker yeah it’s the motion 50 nice
okay right on yeah so I would say if
this had a six and a half inch you would
see things going down to more like if
these are upper 40s or something before
it starts to roll off but this is I
think fairly
typical for a four or five and a quarter
so I don’t see anything wrong I mean the
this this is kind of nasty right here
this this hump I would be curious to
understand why it’s pushed down so hard
but you know if you wanted to eat you
this out a little bit like you the the
room has a lot to do with in the red is
the room test in reacting yeah the room
impacting the output of the speaker so
one thing that people really need to
understand is when you buy pair speakers
the speaker’s gonna do what they do but
the thing that colors the sound or
impacts that what you hear in your ears
I mean out of that speaker or that
anything else more than the source and
more than the amplification is gonna be
the room right your walls and your
furniture and how the sound bounces
around in the room so you know typically
what people ask me hey you know what
what do I do to make things sound better
I say pull a good pair of speakers and
then they do have room treatment which
eat your room treated
you’ll be like man these speakers like
twice as good as they used to be your
man it sounds like I got me an amplifier
whatever room treatments super important
but yeah so you know I think on the bass
these guys are not super strong and they
have a not a super forward and not a
super bright sound you can see over here
if they roll off a little bit in general
I love the sound of a Martin looking
speaker so you know you can’t judge from
a graph how they sound you can just kind
of understand where they might be
deficient and how you want to deal with
that this so yeah if you can pull this
peak down or maybe just try and pull
this down just a little bit to give you
that nice flatter curve people will just
like this lay it is yeah I don’t I don’t
see any problems with the speaker at all
except of the bases is weak I I can tell
you just by looking at the curve I would
not be satisfied with the bass response
coming out of these without a little bit
of a little – subwoofer action paired
with a sub I think these things are
gonna scream I think anything is going
to be beautiful so I’ll probably do that
next for the for the final listening you
know situation and then I mean the
measurements are there so every anybody
interested in knowing the actual
measurements of these speakers you just
got him driving Giles described the
speaker – Giles has not heard this
yet he’s just going off the measurements
so I think his description of the
measurement was spot-on do you Thank You
Giles for being on the show and letting
me know what is up with these motion 15
eyes
I am definitely excited about him I love
him you know I think they’re gonna be a
part of my life for quite some time so
yeah I look forward to hearing about I
want to check them out well I think
we’re definitely gonna do a battle of
the bookshelves eventually and you all
will be able to see that on
JDM world and on audio architects so
definitely subscribe to Giles his
channel it’s going to be all in the
description below and let’s get back to
this show
alright guys I hope you enjoyed that Sam
demo overall this is my final thought on
these motion 50 knives by Martin Logan I
thought they were super clear the
clarity was incredible the mids and
highs were nice mellow beautiful not too
bright as the re W measurements showed
it’s not a bright speaker so you’re
going to get really really beautiful
mids and highs and where I thought was
an area of opportunity was the lows but
in a five and a quarter inch speaker you
can’t asked for too much so I’m willing
to forgive that because I am pairing
these two with a subwoofer so paired
with a subwoofer they sound absolutely
phenomenal I couldn’t ask for a better
speaker so definitely check those out
it’ll be in the description below and
thank you again for watching if you

MartinLogan Motion 15 Bookshelf Speakers

MartinLogan Motion 15 bookshelf speaker is a new creation in the world of sound systems and home entertainment accessories. This company offers a line of products for the discriminating customer and it has set itself apart from its competitors by providing high quality speakers at an affordable price. The motion series is aimed at the discriminating audiophile that wants to have high quality speakers to make their home sound system a true showpiece.

Unlike many bookshelf speakers the MartinLogan Motion 15 bookshelf speaker comes with a subwoofer. These are called the on-ceremony speakers as they are used to amplify the main audio in each of the rooms where the bookcase is being placed. The subwoofer is enclosed in a sturdy enclosure which makes it extremely safe for traveling and yet it still delivers powerful bass. It also provides excellent sound quality because it does not use the same amplifier as the other speakers in the system.

To enjoy the many features of these speakers, the user needs to understand how to install them. If you do not have experience in installing speakers then you should not attempt this as it can be quite difficult and dangerous. On the instructions booklet that comes with the Motion 15s you will find all the information you need to mount them correctly and safely. The motion 15s manual should be studied closely before installation as it provides the users with all the important information.

One of the main features of the MartinLogan Motion 15-way bookshelf speaker cherry desk is its walnut finish. This gives the unit an upscale, refined look that many people like. Walnut is a stronger colored wood than pine which makes it an ideal choice to use in a product that will be used in a formal setting such as a formal office. Because walnut is a stronger color the grain of the wood is more evident. This gives the MartinLogan a more refined, elegant and sophisticated look that many customers appreciate.

The other major feature of the motion 15 bookshelf speaker is that it uses the latest and most advanced technologies to make its performance better. These include digitally coupled woofer and tweeter, which are making to give the maximum amount of sound out. Because of these technologies the MartinLogan can produce high quality sound at an affordable price. They also have a very large cabinet with a glass top that can be laminated to improve the acoustical properties. In addition to the large size of the cabinet the top has a textured surface to increase sound projection. This is another factor why many people choose to use the MartinLogan over other similar brands.

All of these main features make the MartinLogan the best model to buy for people who have high end needs and who want to enjoy their sound at a reasonable price. It can be considered the ultimate book shelf speaker because it offers so many features that make it the best model. It has a large flat cabinet, a walnut finish, a large woofer for great sound quality, and it has a sub-woofer that produces even more powerful sound. Some of the other great features of this unit include the fact that it has a lifetime warranty, an easy to operate control knob, the slide mechanism that allows the bookshelf speakers to be opened and closed from both the front and the back, as well as several key lock features that keep this unit safe. The MartinLogan Motion 15 bookshelf speakers are perfect for anyone looking for a system that is durable, affordable, and versatile. 3 verified buyer reviews
  1. My Cambridge towers were unable to be installed due to the remodeling of the family room. After doing some analysis, I purchased a Martin Logan Motion 8 center and needed bookshelf fronts. I took a gamble on the latest Motion 15’s and was blown away by how clear and complete the sound was. The sound is strong whether listening to Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, Clapton, or watching a movie on Netflix or the Giants on a Sunday afternoon. My electrician, who installs “high end” systems in million dollar “smart” homes, was taken aback.

I couldn’t find these on sale anywhere, but they’re well worth it. We appreciated the white cabinet.

  2. I don’t ever buy used/unboxed speakers because I’ve had problems with appearance that have gradually irritated me over time. Or consider Joe Shmoe blasting it at 100 decibels and destroying the speaker’s dignity.

I took a gamble because the Cherry Martin Logan Motion 15 was reasonably priced. This was delivered by Electronics Expo shortly after the purchase was completed. It was not only well-packed, but it also seemed to be brand new! I’ll search for their things without a doubt. The sound from the speakers is crisp and consistent. I’m actually using this as a center channel since my other one is about to be replaced.

  3. If you are considering these speakers and they are within your range, you should be confident that you will receive excellent audio output and can buy them without hesitation. I was reluctant at first, but I am now totally pleased and happy I purchased these. I’m no audiophile by any way (nor do I have the budget to be), but I love and know where to find professional audio acoustics, and I can certainly recommend these without hesitation. If you decide to buy this product, you will not only receive a physical package containing these masterpieces, but also a lifetime companion with suitable solutions anytime you need them.
