The Heligoats Mesmerize Listeners With Unique Blend Of Raw Pop Musical Styling

Artist: The Heligoats

Genre: Indie

The Review: 4 / 5 – Very Good

Chris Otepka, the man behind Bellingham, Washington based indie band The Heligoats, has been working on his songwriting craft since the late 90′s.

With a penchent for writing quirky songs about some very obtuse ideas, Otepka has a knack for pushing his listeners to the edge of their seat while following his twisted storys.

When playing solo, Otepka channels the likes of Conner Oberst- simple, raw, and emotional strumming and singing. Then when you add the full band to the mix, Otepka and the rest of The Heligoats bring about a playing style that is much more of a fast paced grunge-pop style. Jack Johnson meets Nirvana is one way I described the music of The Heligoats to a friend- a pretty wild combo but yet, perfectly fitting and balanced.

Currently touring, I’d suggest catching The Heligoats if they are playing a town near you. Visit their Facebook page for gig details.
