The Review: 5 / 5 – Flawless
When we saw this dream lineup paired with a venue that ranks amongst the most breathtaking in the world, covering this show was a no-brainer for us here at TreeThugger!
With the amphitheater quickly filling with fans, Emancipator’s Doug Appling kicked things off smoothly with his signature blend of ethereal & melodic grooves accompanied by Ilya Goldberg’s spot on violin playing.
As the Emancipator set was wrapping up the sun was going down and before we knew it, it was time for EOTO to come out and kick the dance party into high gear. Since EOTO is 100% live improv, you never know what you are going to get and right off the bat they surprised us by tapping into a vibe that they seemed to channel more of in years past. This flashback to bubbling alien space-funk was a total treatand brought us some big smiles. As their set kept pumping away EOTO was able to stir the crowd into a frenzy with hot dance tracks and a few cover songs that showcased Jason Hann’s vocal styling.
By now the crowd was properly primed and ready for whatever Lotus was going to throw at them. Lotus came out screaming with some amazing renditions of their classic tracks. Once the monstrous Hammerstrike > Bubonic Tonic was played everyone knew that this show was going to be something extra special. Brothers Jesse & Luke where really dialed into each other and having a lot of fun all through the show and guitarist Mike Remple absolutley brought the heat during much talked about encore of Kodiak> Colorado> Spiritualize.
Overall, for the music offered to us Saturday’s show, it was as close to flawless as you can get. The trifecta of musical wizards really made the night something special– possibly one of our favorites of the summer.
