What Is The Difference Betwteen A 6-String & A 12-String Guitar?
so in front of mine asked me what the
difference between a six string and a 12
string guitar was I tried to explain to
them the difference but realized as as
explaining that that just explaining it
doesn’t do justice you have to actually
hear the difference to really get it and
so this is video to explain the
difference between a six string and
twelve string guitar aside from the
obvious difference that a twelve string
guitar has double the strings this six
string guitar has the main differences
in the tuning of the sound and so this
is my trusty Fender 6 string guitar
right and it’s tuned normally and you’ve
got your e a D G B and E strings right
okay so that’s two normally and here is
my twelve string up a phone and I’ll
show you how that’s tuned so it’s got
two sets of two two strings for each for
each string basically and they’re set
they’re tuned an octave apart so you’ve
got your D string here the high E and
aloe B I eat low E play together
I’m a I a the way
ji Hye ji lo ji
the last two sets of strings the B and
the E are tuned without an octave
difference of they’re tuned that’s the B
both strings are tuned to the same
frequency build those are bee’s knees
are not knocked apart okay so there’s
two sets of that’s a 12-string guitar
and it’s tuning and then let me play a
bit of a song on each seeking near the
difference in what they sound with the
that’s a six-string and the same song on
the 12 string
so as you can hear the 12-string is a
much brighter fuller sound than the
sixth string and the other difference is
it’s harder to play it supple the
strings work more on pressure on your
fingers to press down the string so the
differences between a six string and
twelve string guitar

12-String Guitar FAQ
Typically, the frets of the higher four strings are tuned to an octave higher than the strings of the bottom two strings, with the exception of the fifth string, which is tuned an octave lower than the other strings. The middle and lower strings are tuned to each other in sharps or flats, respectively. The top and bottom strings are naturally pitched as sharps or flats, but can be tuned to each other in either sharp or flat tones.
Although you can purchase a guitar that has all of its strings already bound at the factory, most acoustic guitar players favor tuning their 12-string electric guitar using “Tune-O-Matic” methods. This method requires tuning each individual string separately using a pegs or tuners, using the index or third finger of one hand, and pressing down on the strings of each string with the flat of the thumb or the heel of the fingers. Once all of the strings are properly tuned, you will need to replace the covers or tuners.
An acoustic guitar has six to twelve frets, making it a medium-size guitar that is great for strumming and plucking rather than plucking and picking. Because of its large number of frets, the strings can be tuned easily, producing a richer sound. Since the strings are closer to the neck of the guitar, they can be tuned much louder than strings on a regular guitar.
A 12-string acoustic guitar’s body is made of wood and often has a hollow body profile. The strings are placed directly on the body, rather than on the sides or the bridge of the guitar as on a 6-string. Because of this feature, many twelve-string acoustic guitars have open spots where the strings can be strummed. Strings with round ends are popular for this feature.
Most 12-string acoustic guitars have six to twelve courses of strings, giving them a deep and rich tone that’s great for strumming and picking. Generally, the strings are tuned on an octave apart, with the second string of the low six strings being tuned an octave higher than the first string. The high six strings are tuned an octave higher than the low six strings. Sometimes, a guitar will have only six strings, in keeping with the music styles of times long gone when instruments had fewer strings. Other styles of guitar have other kinds of tuning techniques, such as E minor or G major. The best way to learn to play an acoustic guitar is by getting someone to show you how to read music, since most acoustic guitars have tabs for both the major and minor chords.

It is very common for a 12-string guitar to have its own tuner. This is done by attaching it to the guitar’s bridge, which is found either at the end of the neck or at the beginning of the neck. Since the tuner does not wrap around the neck, it must be attached at the bridge, making it quite a hassle sometimes to get the string gauge to be exact. For this reason, most 12-string guitars have their tuners mounted in a way that makes it impossible for one to notice that the string has been shortened.
An alternative to a guitar tuner is a bridge tuner. This is a machine which automatically adjusts the tuning of the string to match the tuner’s index finger. Like a musical index finger, the index finger of a baby guitarist has the same strength and freedom as an adult’s right hand. By placing the bridge tuner on the little finger instead of on the thumb, the tuner can more accurately tune the strings. However, since babies cannot fully control their bow, these instruments are only useful for those who have recently acquired the ability to play music without the use of their hands.
