Moonrise Festival Is Canceled; Event Promoters Say Final Permit Not Secured

The rumors are true, Moonrise Festival is not happening in 2013.

After an article in the Baltimore Sun raised concerns about permitting problems last month the event organizers, Steeze Promo, went on the defensive and assured ticket holders that the event was still on schedule.

But alas, as of about an hour ago the event’s official Facebook page was updated to inform fans that this year’s festival has been given the axe.
It is with a heavy heart that we regret to announce the cancellation of this year’s Moonrise Festival. Although we have put everything we had into this event trying to make it happen we have hit a roadblock that we just cannot overcome as the final permit needed will not be approved.

We are devastated by what has happened but with just under 3 weeks out from this event we cannot move forward without this final permit. We want to both thank and apologize to the fans, the artists, all members of the media, and everyone else who have supported this event. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We have battled to keep this event alive and we are absolutely crushed by this turn of events.
Event ticket refunds can be received from directly from Ticketfly or through local outlets.

Promoters claim to be working on scheduling alternative events in the area that will feature artists who were set to perform on the festival. More details will be posted on their website.

Talking to City Council VP Reisinger, he said that he was shocked last year when Steeze Promo allowed 14,000 people to attend the Starscape Festival with a permit for only 7,500. He called the concert a “drug party” that stretched city resources too thin. According to a report by the fire marshal, last year’s “rave-like” atmosphere got out of control and there were an unspecified number of drug overdoses.

Starscape was cancelled after last year’s event and organizers created Moonrise as a rebranding effort to revitalize the annual Baltimore EDM party.
