  1. I recently upgraded from a Denon AVC-2000 purchased in 1990 (which is still in excellent working order) to this Denon AVRX6200W. I’m using the amp to power a variety of power amps (via the preamp outputs) and speakers, including 4-6 ohm low-ohm speakers. (Infinity IRS beta in the fronts are powered by external power amps, while infinity kappa 9.1 on the sides are driven direct at 6 ohm.) I still have some old tiny Bose 8 ohm speakers in the back. There is no middle channel and no subwoofer. I use the amp for both music (a lot of vinyl these days) and movies. I still use a DLP projection device for film, an older projector without HDMI…I was hoping to adjust at least the component video signals coming in using the Denon’s component video output, but that component video output signal does not seem to work for me. I can only get video out of HDMI. A short-term problem because I want to replace my 10-year-old projector next year.

This unit’s audio is smooth. The best way I can explain it is that it is more than warm; it is peaceful and effortless, and it is a far bigger change than I expected. I suppose a lot has changed in 25 years, but I am surprised at how much better it is musically, particularly for my vinyl collection. This amp serves as the preamp stage for my Techniques SL1200 turntable, as well as some low-end power amps that drive the IRS betas. In contrast, I am astounded at how rough my avc2000 phono preamp was at the dawn of the CD era; I think they had other priorities at the time. I had always intended to get a decent phono preamp, but I had no idea such a drastic change was possible. I’m also experimenting with various surround processing for the left/right phono input signals. (This debunks the entire pure analog case for vinyl, but I’m not interested in debating why it sounds better; I just like it 🙂 Some very old 1970s mixes do incredible instrument separation tricks through this Denon, giving what seem to be distinct tracks to front/side/rear speakers. I bought this to hear all of the 5.1 remixes done by people like Steve Wilson; I didn’t expect to hear it from a stereo signal input.

It will take me months to complete the expected system upgrades, I have another pair of smaller infinities to patch up, and there is still a lot to learn about programming this thing. In one amusing example, I maintain a personal website with MP3 files of original music by myself and other musicians. When I went to play one of these on my iPhone, it asked me if I wanted to submit it to the Denon instead. I said yes, and then heard the song playing on the large speakers in the next room…new fangled technology, I didn’t see that one coming.

  2. There’s a lot of influence here, and the clarity is superb. It took some time to configure my 10.1 with God Channel. I had to pay $200.00 to activate the god channel and I missed a sub out, but it’s a nice device. Now I have to track down a buzz coming from my 15′ Klipsch subwoofer that came with it. Now I have to have both my 12′ sub and my 15′ sub on the same out, which may be causing the problem. But it’s still much superior to my old DENON.

  3. It’s being used with Klipch’s RP 280FA series speakers (with Dolby ATMOS speaker pair). I had a four-year-old Denon receiver that I replaced with an AVRX6200W – what a difference and feast for the ears! I calibrated the audissy and then left the settings alone (except for changing the surround speaker settings to ‘large’). I tried it for both movies and music CDs. Excellent purchase!
