“Beastie Boys” rapper MCA — real name Adam Yauch — has died.
Adam Yauch, better known as MCA to fans of his group, Beastie Boys, announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node back in 2009.
Though assumed that his death is related to his battle with cancer, that has not been confirmed as of yet.
News of his death first popped up online via GlobalGrind.com and other people close to Adam’s family have also confirmed his death.
Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in the late 70′s with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors to help with his fight against cancer and has maintained that lifestyle since at least 2010.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.
As of this writing, no official statement has been released by the family or by his band.
